Speeds, Feeds and Cutting
These calculators set the cutting parameters. Speeds and Feeds uses the tool diameter, cutting speed and chip load from your tooling supplier, Chip Load and SFM work in both directions, MRR estimates the removal rate of a cut and Surface Finish converts roughness values.

- Chip Load Calculator — Find the chip load (feed per tooth) from your feed rate, or the feed rate for a chip load, and correct it for light radial cuts.
- G Code List — Type a G-code or M-code, or a word like peck, tap or coolant, to see what it does and an example block.
- Material Removal Rate Formula and Calculator — Get the material removal rate (MRR) for a milling, turning or drilling cut, and an estimate of spindle power if you know the unit power.
- SFM Calculator (RPM ↔ Surface Speed) — Convert cutting speed in SFM or m/min to spindle RPM for a tool or part diameter, or work out the surface speed from RPM.
- Speeds and Feeds Calculator — Enter the tool diameter, cutting speed and chip load from your tooling supplier to get spindle RPM and feed rate.
- Surface Finish Calculator — Convert roughness values, predict the theoretical finish of a turning pass, or find the cusp height left by a ball nose stepover.
